Welcome to the 12th annual Flint River Council Stamp Collecting Merit Badge Clinic. In this two day clinic you will have the opportunity to complete the requirements for the newly revised Stamp Collecting Merit Badge, start a stamp collection, and join the U.S. Post Office Ben Franklin Stamp Club.

* Pick one of the Topical Stamp Kits. There are several different topics to choose from. Each has an album, enough stamps for your collection, hinges, and other information. By Saturday, correctly mount the stamps in the album and be able to present your kit to the group. This completes requirement # 8 We will be doing option D, which is the Topical Collection requirement. To get credit you must mount the stamps & bring the album Saturday. Please feel free to add any other stamps to your topical collection that you may find. Also you are encouraged to try some of the other options listed for requirement # 8.
* Know the terms in requirements # 3 & 5. We will play the S-T-A-M-P game using these terms at the next meeting in which you can win prizes. Use your Merit Badge Book & the U.S. Post Office "Introduction to Stamp Collecting" Booklet to learn the definitions so you can win!
* For Requirement 7, pick a stamp at your house that interests you, Make a poster page with drawings or other art work like a Mobile to show the story behind the stamp. A good place to get this stamp is from some old letters your parents keep at your house or one from your mail tomorrow. Your poster can include anything you think will help promote the idea in the stamp including newspaper articles, drawings, comics, actual stamps, etc. These will be placed on display at the Post Office for the remainder of October. You can pick up your pictures after the first of November at the scout office/ Be sure and neatly have your name and troop number on your drawing/poster.
* Take one section of the stamp mobile to color. We will put this mobile together and have this hanging on display at the Post Office.
* Study the Stampin Board Game rules on the enclosed flyer. By reviewing the rules at home we can spend more time playing the game on Saturday.
* OPTIONAL: If you are interested in the Citizenship in the World Merit Badge, and want an inexpensive way to collect stamps from other countries you can write to scouts from more than 50 different countries around the world. Write your letters in English, clearly list your name and address as well basic information about yourself. You can bring your letters to the Saturday clinic, or if you don't have time to write your letter, you can mail your letter directly to: International Division, Boy Scouts of America, 1325 Walnut Hill Lane P.O. Box 152079, Irving, Texas 75015 - 2079. Be sure and indicate what type of person you want to correspond with and in what country.
Be sure to have the two stamp projects done and know all of the stamp terms. We will be taking a field trip to the Post Office and will have a visitor from the USPO Ben Franklin Stamp Club talk to us; play games, and pass a quiz. The quiz will be over items we covered in the sessions. Be sure and look in your Merit Badge Pamphlet to study the terms we will use Saturday. Each scout completing the badge will get a certificate & Blue Card which you can show your Scoutmaster to get credit for the badge and a personalized button saying you are a stamp collector. Also, for the first few minutes of the next meeting you can bring your extra stamps for a stamp swap with other scouts. Additional stamps will also be for sale for those interested in adding to their collections.

8:20 - Show & Tell of those with Stamp Collections, Stamp Posters (assignments from last meeting) and Mobiles. Ed will be around to sign off requirement 8d for your topical stamp collection. Your stamps must be mounted. He will also be checking off Requirement 7f which are the stamp posters which will be displayed at the Griffin post office.

9:35 - GUEST VISIT! Mr. William H. (Bill) Allen, President of SOSSI (Scouts on Stamps Society International) will discuss and present his collection of Boy Scout Covers & Cancellation Marks and talk about the exciting hobby of being a topical collector of Boy Scout Stamps and about SOSSI.
